We don't need to shed them all, get rid of 3-4. We need 6 new faces next year.

Hansen is a pawn , he is expendable . I like him but he was rather ineffective this year ,and we would be stuck with him for 4 years if he repeats. Hansen for Burmistrov rights.

Curious as to why Diaz wasn't a regular for you guys. Granted its only a small sample size with the Rangers, but I thought he has played well. Has some physicality, seems responsible defensively, pretty good skater, and no hesitation on ripping a shot from the point.

He was shipped rather quickly . We never gave him a chance and we had his clone Weber here.

I think Vancouver took him as part of the salary dump from MTl so they could fit under the cap to take Weise. Never really part of Vancouvers plans.

Ah ok, thanks for the info. Try to follow the goings on of most teams in the NHL, really tough to follow you guys as I live on the east coast though.

Hansen, Higgins (why give out NTCs for 3rd liners?) and 1 on the top 4 D can go.

I'd still like to keep Hansen as long as Torts is gone next year

Hansen is a tough player to trade ... He is a bottom 6 guy who had a terrible year and is under contract for 4 more years .... If I'm a gm why would I give up anything for a guy when I can take a chance on a ufa or bring in a prospect instead

Canucks priority should be a puck moving D a tough reliable D and top 4 forward

Can't argue with that, plus I don't want to be banned again.

That strategy will make us better but not good enough to contend. If you want to contend in 3-5 years a complete rebuild will be needed. That means trading Hammer, Kesler, Bieksa. Use the cap to sign free agents who will be coveted by other GMs at the deadline to short term contracts. Overpay a bit if you need to but keep the contracts short. With the albatross contracts we are in a weak position so hold them and hope they improve enough to be traded next March.

San Jose seems to compete and they just pulled off a retool but if you're going to rebuild then do it right. Trade everyone for draft picks or prospects, keep Tanev, Lack, Kassian, Jensen, Corrado, and anyone who hasn't had more than 10 games with the big club, new mind set.

Our D core should look like this

Hammer - Tanev
Edler - ????
Garrison - ????

Stanton and Bieksa are expendable IMO

I was on the fence with Jason Garrison but he was 5th in scoring on a weak Canucks team. 4.6 mill won't look bad once the cap goes up next offseason.
